Another one bites the dust. Allen Lanier, founding member of 70s hard rockers Blue Oyster Cult has passed away at 66. Lanier was hospitalised with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (C.O.P.D.), a disease associated with smoking.
A CREEM magazine favorite and a smart alternative to much of the 70s hard rock drivel, Blue Oyster Cult peaked artistically with Secret Treaties and the mighty live treatise On Your Feet, Or On Your Knees. They followed those fan favorites up with the massive back-to-back singles "Don't Fear the Reaper" from Agents of Fortune and "Godzilla" from Spectres.
